I scan back to the last one I read, plus changes back further -- like additional comments made where I've commented. That could indicate conversation happening, y'see. (My notifications go to my home addy, and I monitor things from work, too, see ...)
Things that catch my eye most are Who and Where -- like: There's annechen67's usual icon, what's she up to? And look, it's a new art or fic post on lower_tadfield! ;]
The thing that catches my eye is the icon chosen by the poster. It allows me to set my mind to 'conversation with that particular person' more than nicknames ever did.
My Icon is a very loud yellow, a color which nobody else here seems to choose. In conversations it gives me a good bookmark as to whether anything new has been added by doing a pattern recognition of the indents and icons around it.
Problem with me is that my Flist is so large (I have a hard time saying 'no' sometimes), that it's usually skip=120 or so if I read, or at least skim, EVERY single post... twice a day.
So I've been really really awful and bad and such lately, and just checking a few LJs due to time issues, not even using my filters.
