Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] grommie38! She's working today - part-time on-call and she works on her birthday *sigh*.

Had a power outage last night, which interrupted the grindingly-slow progress of BTP, though there is now a kitten involved.

The power outage also kicked me out of Second Life. Still looking for jobs that do not require me to fill out surveys. Sure, they pay more than camping, but I really don't want to send out more personal information than I have to, and don't feel like setting up a specific spamming account. At least Miss Lowey found Caledon.

I find I am more and more interested in learning CSS and the related bits, but have no time for a formal class.

Now entering a third week of predicted triple-digit high temperatures. Metro Schools are letting out early today due to heat, but not RCS as far as I have heard. No, I don't know why the schools open in August and close at Memorial Day instead of starting Labor Day and going until the middle of June.

I do SL on occasion. Who are you on there?

Major sympathies on the heat wave front. I can hardly imagine weathering that. :(

I'm Annechen Lowey, I think. My notes are at home.

This is unusually hot, as the average high temps are around 85-90. It still has not gotten hot enough, long enough, to convince me to move further north, either. I'll burrow before I brave blizzards.

I'm still boggled that you were lucky enough to snag almost your exact First Life name. Wicked!

Not many Steiners in the list were there? Chan didn't give me his name, and they don't let you pick your surname.

The list changes constantly - which is reason B why Klaus doesn't have an alt. Although 'Sparky Chemistry' is kinda amusing....

I'm still kind of sorry I let 'McMillan' go by.

Schools up here generally start just after Labour Day and continue 'til late June.

And 38+ C? Ouch. I'm not sure it got much higher than 30C (low eighties) this summer.

I can remember going back to school the last full week of August, but the start date has been creeping back for years. I'm starting to wonder why June is off-limits, and casting a suspicious eye at the football coaches.

Having been in the general area my whole life, I could say that one week is fine, two weeks is pushing it, and three weeks is getting annoying. My senior year in high school, I had a friend whose family had just moved here from Calgary. Her mother joked that their Canadian summer wardrobes suddenly became their Tennessee winter wardrobes.

Well, that is true... but Calgary is also notorious for unpredictable weather, what with occasional snow in the summer, and chinooks in the winter.

Whereas here today it reached a scorching high of 63 -- that'd be 16C for those of us north of the 49th.

Mmmm, chilly August....

You evil, wicked, naughty man. I suppose for it to get cold again, the locals should surround the Sommet Center and chant "We DO believe in hockey!" until it freezes over?

Mmm. It was a relatively balmy twenty in Vancouver. But, of course, wet.

I could use some more wet, it's hanging around the 30s here with heat index workin' it. [kicks hurricane season in its tropic of cancer]

OTOH, we have had episodes of spontaneous haystack combustion down the road from us.

I didn't know you had been assimilated into the SL collective. Pester me later, IM Kara Timtam.

There is a LJ community [profile] second_lifers if you want to have a lookit that.
