They were sitting on the back porch, listening to the children playing inside with the mothers nominally refereeing. “You know, Doc,” the younger of the pair said as he tuned the twelve-string, “It always amazed my parents that you always knew where and when to show up for Christmas.”
“I appreciate your discretion,” the older man replied, “although in this age it does not seem to be warranted.”
“No, I think it’s even more important now.” He strummed a few bars, “You need a place where you don’t have to be anything but yourself.”
“Thank you, Marty.”
“Welcome home, Doc.”
