I finally applied for a promotional position, and had an appointment for an interview Monday morning. Note the verb tense.

I received an e-mail message Friday:
"Due to the audit of the register, your interview appointment has been cancel. Thank you for your interest."

My query regarding the positions which needed to be filled last quarter generated the response:
"Another register should be pull soon."

Twitching due to grammatical errors aside, I was miffed. The fact that I was not the only one to receive this message did allay my paranoia that I was not going to be permitted to even try. Apparently, there were some anomalies with some of the applications brought to the attention of the personnel department, which triggered an audit. An audit of the register. A FRINKING AUDIT OF THE REGISTER.

The fact that I bought a chainsaw today is totally unrelated. Really. I swear.
