One hundred years after Olympia
He considered his daughter a few moments before asking, “You’re absolutely sure you want to do this?”
“Well, actually, I want to do both,” she said, as she opened the folio before her on the dining room table.
Oh, crud - she has a presentation ready. Quick, before she launches into a lecture- “Does this have anything to do with the argument you and your brother had earlier this month?” His question stilled her hands. She looked up and changed her focus behind him, which caused him to look towards the door. “Stop lurking and come in,” he said to his son.
“It’s a good idea, Dad. We keep getting drilled about trying to understand what it’s like for those who are not us. I thought I’d like to try for a Gold Award, too,” he said as he sat beside his sister.
Their father rubbed his face and muttered, “You know this means twice as many meetings, with that much less time in the lab.”
She slowly shuffled her paperwork back into the folder, “You don’t have to go to every meeting…”
“I meant for you - do both of you realize how much work this will be? How much time it will take away from your projects? I don’t think your grades will suffer, but…”
She looked up at her father, “Please, Dad? Let us try.”
“Oh, fine - both of you can try for Eagle and Gold scout ranks, but keep your presentation ready for your mother.”
