Take another piece of my art...

Look through my userpics - pick out five of them which make you curious and write down their keywords in a comment here. I'll explain the stories behind the images, and then you post this same request in your own LJ.

Annechen, dear ....

The link you're using goes to Corgi's userpics. Might want to alter that ... ;]

*snigger* At least you followed the instructions, though [goes to nag other three current participants].

Oh, the guilt - memes are such candy and so bad for you, so I try to only tag the ones that make me work a bit.

Okie Dokie

[identity profile] ms-issicran.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
The five I pick are:

Starbuck Avenger
George
Reaper Joe
Jeng-ammit!
Dancers

Geez, quit changing them while I'm postin...LOL
Someone already told you about your link eh?

Re: Okie Dokie

[identity profile] annechen-melo.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
That link fubar is what I get for being lazy about cut'n'paste.

Starbuck Avenger for Trish (Found this one for [livejournal.com profile] chanlemur who got a better offer.)
This is one I created to appease Channing to write more of Tales of the Starbuck Avenger, the first chapter of which can be found here: http://chanlemur.livejournal.com/32575.html#cutid1 He got a much better offering from [livejournal.com profile] shaenon who is much more talented, and I am in the process of becoming an annoyance thereunto.

George (An icon of George from MGM)
George is a Reaper, in a sort-lived but addictive show on Showtime called "Dead Like Me" which I have come to believe was discontinued because Mandy Patinkin was going to "Criminal Minds", not a bad show, but [whinges] I tend to use this one for the times I might be squicked and want to return the favor.

reaper joe (MGM icon)
another "Dead Like Me" icon, taken kinda from the show's opening theme. Sort of my "deathly sense of humor" icon.

Jeng-ammit!
I needed an icon for those times to express frustration, usually at myself. The cat losing at Jenga seemed appropriate.

Dancers
I cannot animate icons on my own yet, so this is the "I like to move it..." kind of icon for now. I found the graphic while searching for vidclips of dancers performing moves I decribed in prose, and liked to woodcut feel of it.

An annoyance? To me? Bah! Or did you mean to Shaenon? I'm not sure to whom your 'thereunto' is pointing. :)

That modifier is not so much a laser as a shotgun with a choke. Not much range, but a massive spread.

Re: Okie Dokie

[identity profile] annechen-melo.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, tell me about why you don't use that icon by Tiede?

Re: Okie Dokie

[identity profile] jeffreycwells.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's very pretty, so I like having it there to look at, but aside from story-specific indicator-icons I tend to like keeping my avatar constant. And the South Park one is just a smidgen more versatile. That's all.

Clear as Mud

[identity profile] ms-issicran.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, there's just so many things I still don't understand. I wonder though if I should ask about them. Being nowhere near nerd friendly as you all, I'll just have to venture in. Maybe somewhere along the line, I'll at least be amusing instead of annoying.

While I'm glad [livejournal.com profile] chanlemur got a better offer, I'm still not sure about the identity of Trish.

Okay, what is 'squicked'?

I don't get cable. [livejournal.com profile] blackbyrd2 keeps me chained in the back room here with nothing but this keyboard. "NO TV" he says, until I get all my chores done and all...ALL the skidmarks are washed out of his undies. He's a cruel, heartless man...ahem, where were we?

I LOVE the Jeng Kitty who about turns wrong side out at losing!

The Dancers one reminds me of the Gemini icon I made late last winter.

All great icons, but I don't see some as much as others. You're like me like that. If I'm not using one I have a tendency to change it. I'm due now for a change I think.

NOTE

[identity profile] ms-issicran.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] blackbyrd2 just reminded me of who Trish is, he's been telling me about what's been happening to her. ~~feeling a little geek/nerdy now

Re: NOTE

squick
1. Noun. The physical sense of repulsion upon encountering a concept or situation one finds disgusting.
2. Noun. A situation or concept which engenders this reaction.
3. Verb, transitive. To cause someone to have this reaction.
4. Verb, intransitive. To experience this reaction.
(i.e. - EWEWEWEWEWEWEW!)

BB2 has some odd ideas of were someone should be chained up, but hey, if it works for you, go for it.

Thanks for clearing that up, I hope I can use it correctly in the future.

(and it's not his fault, he works nights, I work days...oh wait, I don't work now...XD)

When I Saw Yours....

I just kept thinking, 'How did she get so many userpics!?' It took me a good couple of clicks before I realized the link was wonky...you've got some interesting ones.

[sweeping bow]

[identity profile] sff-corgi.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
OK, my turn, my turn! [browses, discard a couple already requested]

In pretty much reverse order of appearance:
  1. canon stomp (stompin' where?)
  2. Oddball (who?)
  3. no hair (whyfor?)
  4. ooh (nifty little sketches from where?)
  5. Titian painting (Gus and Marta?)

[identity profile] annechen-melo.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Whee!

canon stomp (from [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge)
I had been hooked by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's Stealing Harry fanfic, and Sam has been stomping all over multiple fandoms. Right now, I am mangling only one fandom without help.

Oddball (Will you stop with the negative waves?)
Oh, whenever I read a post and realize there are only three other people who will know where I am coming from (and two of them don't blog) I use the tank commander's photo. Oddball is one of my favorite characters (hoo boy is he a character) from "Kelly's Heroes", which is on History Channel or AMC every Memorial Day. Go rent it sometime - I think you might like it.

no hair
You know "bad hair days"?
Actually, this is my picture from when Mama was going through chemo. She was getting down about losing her hair, and I told her to come over and I'd shave her head, then she could shave mine. "You don't have to do that." Mama said. "Well, no - but it would be worth it for MawMaw's reaction." (her mother, my grandmother) She was quiet for a few seconds, and then started giggling "I'll be right over."

ooh
This is the extent of my graphic abilities. The sketches were self-portrait doodles I did for signatures in yearbooks in high school, and while I couldn't find any from that timeframe (Thank Gnu) I worked up a couple for LJ.

Titan painting (I am using this Icon for BTP until someone makes a better one for G&M.)
I have not posted much of Betwixt The Planes in a long while. Original fiction, and all steming from the drunken debate years ago that boiled down to the idea "there are no evil people, only those who choose evil actions". There have been few comments on the lack of said story's updates. I might try again later.

[identity profile] sff-corgi.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I got semi-hooked on [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge as well, even though he writes R/S - actually, kind of because it, because he manages to make it really... really without wrecking character the way 99% of the puppyshippers do. I've a good bit of catching him up to do, when I get a chance.

I've heard of 'Kelly's Heroes', I think... need a TV first, though. *heavy sigh*

Oh, I remember you telling that story before now! What was MawMaw's reaction?

Nifty doodles indeed.

And... ahhaaaaah. :) Reminds me, though - what happened to that Klaus-bit you were cackling luridly about?

[identity profile] annechen-melo.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Sam writes slash without squick, I like it.

"Kelly's Heroes" is a heist movie masquerading as a war picture. Hee.

MawMaw was Not Amused. She also thinks women don't need pick-up trucks. It was SOOOO worth it.

Ah, well - that's still cooking. I still have problems with it because the groom keeps trying to join in.

[identity profile] sff-corgi.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I disagree vehemently on the plausibility of that relationship as a whole, but unfortunately cannot argue against the possibility. There's no canon in either direction, just a vibe.

The groom... Bwah! [shakes head in a 'she's so baaad' gesture]

[identity profile] nakedkali.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
One of my five was already answered. Cherry limeade, friends, gotta be me, and evil is sexy.

I think I only have one userpic. I drew it to explore what could be done with only a bitmap program. I wanted to suggest celtic knotwork without actually drawing it, and didn't have a scanner.

[identity profile] annechen-melo.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Cherry Limeade (Guilty Pleasure Number 7)
One of my binge items is a trip to Sonic, for cheddar peppers and a huge cherry limeade (or cranberry limeade, a new addition). Occasionally they have had fried pickle chips, another thing I can't have often.

Friends
This image was in an email I received from five or six people in the space of a week. I liked the cats and decided I needed a cuddly icon without bizzarre connotations.

gotta be me (by Brooke McEldowney)
Mama pointed me in the direction of this recent 9 Chickweed Lane strip. I aspire to gain the ability to be vulgar with six-syllable adverbs.

evil is sexy (by Vito Excalibur)
This is fanart from Narbonic. While it is includes the main cast, Dave's expression captivated me. I have strange tastes.

[identity profile] labelleizzy.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
that was dave? I thought it was Madblood!

[identity profile] annechen-melo.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No, evill is sexy is Dave, Mad is Hot is Madblood.

[identity profile] labelleizzy.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*wanders back to check*

c'mere, Athena's place, Kung Fu Puppy, canon stomp & pink.

(I didn't read any other comments before postings so if I duplicate, lemme know; either you can choose to get off easy or I can pick others I was curious about.)

[identity profile] annechen-melo.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
c'mere (S. K. Garrity 6/09/05)
A wonderful image from a wonderful story arc in Narbonic. It is a testement to [livejournal.com profile] shaenon's storytelling that although she has kicked Dave out of the lab, I'm still reading the strip.

Athena's place
I occasionally need a thoughtful, or sober icon - Stop laughing, it's happened - and the temple down the road a piece seemed appropriate.

Kung Fu Puppy
Just the image of a preying mantis being all bad-a$$ while the puppy is just curious. I see it as an illustration that the young may destroy us yet.

canon stomp
[livejournal.com profile] shaenon is the only writer whose canon I have misfired with extreme prejudice, but [livejournal.com profile] sff_corgi has been enabling my fist steps to stomp all over Europa Wulfenbach.

pink
The quote is something I remember from the mid-'80's, and for the life of me I can't seem to find the original source. It struck me as the perfect phrase for the emo/fluff writing I sometimes get sucked into.

[identity profile] sff-corgi.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so it's my fault, hah?! ;)

[identity profile] annechen-melo.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
A good friend will come to bail you out of jail. A great friend is laughing with you in the holding cell, saying "Dayum, that was fun!"
