Decisions are made by those who show up.

Charlotte gathered her things and said, “I’m going out to vote at lunch, sir. Did you want to come along?”

“Charlotte, it’s not even a midterm election,” Madblood snorted, “This is just a local pissing match.”

“I vote in every election, sir.” Charlotte’s quiet declaration stopped Madblood’s chortling.

It was Lovelace who broke the silence by asking, “I can understand the civic duty, but your response seems… stronger. Why?"

Charlotte sighed and said, “Because my great-great-grandmother was arrested for trying to vote in her local elections, where the highest ranking position contested was alderman.”

Madblood said, “I’ll get my coat.”

Thank you. Me too. I invoke Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott and all the Suffragettes I can remember before I vote. Bless them for keeping up the fight even though the first wave didn't get to enjoy the fruits of their toil.

Hey, at the time of the story, the 100th anniversary had passed.

Hmm... time to start thinking about the Centennial celebration, I think.
