When my morning commute is three times as long due to somebody dropping a house on a Hyundai, and I do not have a method of recording what is going on in my head, then I get to a time/place where I can do something about it... and it is gone.

When I keep trying to dig for smut in a fanfic short and the characters demand development and meaningful relationships.

When my characters info dump on me and then traipse off to play in the woods.

When I ask a character if she would like to write a Christmas short story and I get a giant bucket load of angst and woe instead.

Loads of fun, i'nit?

Hey- it's your interior furniture.
At least the commutin' didn't involve a chicken house....'s 'bout time I return to 3 of 5.

Argh, the car-epiphany-info-lost thing. I have so much trouble with that. I bought a little notebook for the car, so I can grab some stuff and get it on a page, put that in my pocket and add it to my other notes, but when driving at speed it's a lot of "must keep this, this, and this, and _can't take any more" and I still don't know how much I've lost that way over my years of attempting this stuff.

What about a micro-recorder? They've gone digital, too, from what I remember.

Good thought... if I could only stand the sound of my own voice.

I'm nodding my head in sympathy. The plotting while driving thing is truly maddening -- only way I've ever managed it was songwriting while driving: First verse and tune evolve together, then keep repeating until utterly memorised. Add a verse and repeat entire song up 'til then until solid. Repeat as needed. (Prolly a good thing I mostly drive long distances alone ...) %]

Please try to ignore the fact that my sincere sympathy for the rest of your points is tinged with eager anticipation ....

There's something kind of Wizard-Of-Oz-ish about "dropping a house on a Hyundai", what?

[admires your icon] Lookit that face there - that's not an 'I'm goofing around professionally' face, that's a 'I'm in the ZONE' face... and those hands.

That's how you know, it not just Harpo the character... it's his real artistic self shining through.

If you have not read HARPO SPEAKS, I highly recommended it. My favorite biography, even though obviously ghosted, the man was not a writer but his personality shines through. This is where I first fell in love with the Algonquin Round Table too.

I also noticed and was mesmerized by your icon, as I am currently enjoying Groucho by Stefan Kanfer.
